I havent tried it on my friend's older XP-computer though, but the problem is definitely with Vista's updates. Then among the choices, click on Disk Management. and this eSATA cable I bought from Frys is a total piece of crap. The drive is small (geometry)and fairly light, too. For history's sake, the original Firewire was released when USB was USB 1.0, hence the speed advantage of Firewire! Special notes for using FreeAgent™ | XTreme with eSATA One of the features on the FreeAgent™ | XTreme model drive is an eSATA port. The Free Agent Pro software and drive formatting works only with Windows, but the drive can easily be reformatted for a Mac with OS X's Disk Utility. Rebooting the computer does nothing to fix the disk problem, since it is the disk controller that is confused. set that raid port to run as ahci *now even having done that, you may need to have your external hard drive plugged in at your first boot.
