It's been driving me bonkers for weeks. And i didn┤t even smell any burned electonic. Like you say best to just rent, The music though I would like back. interpretasl, if you are brave, you could tear it open manually and recover data that way.
I have also lost my sound software but hope to recover, repair or update the drivers. However, my friend who is borrowing my drive at the moment is having the same issues with the drive. Those other pictures shows how the outer casing looks like on the inside. I'm having a hard time cracking this thing open.
I'm not sure I'll buy another seagate. Don't break the case unless that's a last resort to try the drive in its bare state. Whilst I remain hopeful of a positive solution/answer, I am not holding my breath. Once you get the metal jacket out pull off the rubber bumpers there are screws underneath then you can take out the drive note that the case is constructed like a and I don't mean just a few;). Even if it is the software to change it won't recognise the drive after the delayed write failed error in any case and so there's not much I could do to Seagate Manager Windows 10 I tried Neil's suggestion and downloaded the FreeAgent Desktop software to see if I had missed something. And I have been at fault as well.... I didnt lose any data as such but i need a working one soon as im always concerned about my PC making strange clicking noises. Now, I just need to get the drive to my buddy to try to access it. But remember - experiment at your own risk!
