Which brought me back to a semi-functioning Windows and working keyboard. And some chronological events leading to total disaster: This led to me attempting a system repair using my XP install disc. If you have another system, the simple thing will be to try your keyboard on it to rule out a hardware issue. This has been a problem I'm trying to solve for over a week now!
